The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal accused Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra of making derogatory remarks against Hindus, particularly the Matua community, and shared a video as evidence. In the video, Moitra is allegedly heard asking why Hindus remain supporters of the TMC throughout the year but turn into “Sanatanis” during elections. The BJP claimed she spoke in a manner suggesting that government funds were her party’s property and mocked those who voted for the BJP.
The BJP further alleged that Moitra ridiculed followers of the Vaishnav sect and made sharp comments against them. Party leaders stated they would not tolerate such remarks and announced they would oppose her statements. As of now, neither Mahua Moitra nor the Trinamool Congress has responded to the controversy.
